This year, because of Coronavirus, the campaign can’t be run in the normal way. Usdaw wants to keep shop workers safe from the virus as well as safe from abuse, so we are not asking reps to run stalls in shops. Without the normal stalls, there are still a number of ways members and reps can help get the key messages across.
Take the survey
We want to hear about the real-life experience of Usdaw members.
We know from a flash survey at the beginnings of the Coronavirus crisis that violence, threats and abuse against retail workers doubled during the height of the crisis. The real life stories of our members bring this campaign to life and we want to hear about everyone’s experiences.
Sign the petition
Usdaw is petitioning the Government for a law that protects retail workers. The Government must create a specific offence of abusing, threatening or assaulting a retail worker. The offence must carry a penalty that acts as a deterrent and makes clear that abuse of retail workers is unacceptable.
The petition is gaining momentum if we reach 100,000 signatures it will be debated in parliament.
