New Year's Day Working in Scotland

Usdaw is campaigning for all large shops in Scotland to close on New Year’s Day

Shopworkers deserve a decent rest on New Year's Day

We believe that our members should be able to enjoy New Year’s Day with their friends and families.

We understand the importance of being able to recover following the busy run up to the festive period.

From what members have told us, only 3% of Scottish retail workers are happy to work on New Year’s Day.

The Scottish Government has rejected Usdaw’s calls for large shops to close on New Year’s Day

The announcement is a slap in the face for retail workers who have worked tirelessly throughout the pandemic and deserve a much needed day off.

Usdaw will continue to campaign for the closure of large stores on New Year’s Day. Please use this link to contact your MSPs to let them know how strongly retail workers feel about the issue.
