This year Usdaw is highlighting workplace risks to women’s health. Gender pay gap widens as a ‘motherhood penalty’ worsens – Usdaw calls for action to better support working parents 07 March 2023 Retail trade union Usdaw has expressed concern that the UK’s gender pay gap has widened by 2.4 percentage points to 14.4% in 2021, according to accountancy giant PwC in its Women in Work index. Young Workers' Week 2023 - Usdaw activists focus on mental health 06 March 2023 Retail trade union Usdaw has today launched their Young Workers’ Week, an opportunity for union reps and activists to reach out to young workers and share the campaigning work that Usdaw does. It runs from 6 - 12 March and this year’s focus is mental health in the workplace. Carer’s Leave Bill: Usdaw urges Peers to support as a step in the right direction, but amend to make it paid leave 02 March 2023 Retail trade union Usdaw is calling for Peers to support the Carer’s Leave Bill, which would give people with caring responsibilities a right to unpaid leave from work. The Bill received was passed unopposed by the House of Commons and is set to receive its second reading in the House of Lords on Friday 3 March. Usdaw will be looking for the Bill to be amended at a later stage to make the proposed leave paid. Peers urged by Usdaw to support stronger redundancy protections for pregnant women and new parents 02 March 2023 Retail trade union Usdaw is calling on the House of Lords to support a new law aimed at boosting workplace protection for pregnant women and new parents. The Protection from Redundancy (Pregnancy and Family Leave) Bill is timetabled for a second reading debate in the House of Lords on Friday 3 March. BRC annual crime survey: Usdaw condemns ‘appalling levels’ of violence and abuse against retail workers 02 March 2023 Shopworkers trade union leader Paddy Lillis is deeply disturbed by the latest findings of the British Retail Consortium (BRC) annual survey that shows high levels of retail violence and abuse, at over 850 incidents per day. Labour announces workplace support for women with menopause – Usdaw welcomes the ground-breaking policy 28 February 2023 Retail trade union Usdaw has welcomed today’s policy announcement by Labour to require large firms to set out Menopause Action Plans detailing how they are supporting women with menopause at work. The policy forms part of Labour’s offer to working women, with one in ten aged 45-55 having left their jobs due to menopausal symptoms.
