Usdaw is appalled by a reported shocking 40% increase in violence and abuse against shopworkers 02 February 2017 Shopworkers’ trade union leader John Hannett has called for action to prevent violence threats and abuse against shopworkers as the British Retail Consortium (BRC) reveals a 40% increase in incidents of violence and abuse against retail staff. Weetabix industrial action put on hold as staff balloted on a revised offer 23 January 2017 Following further discussions between Weetabix and Usdaw, a revised offer is now going out to ballot between 1 and 10 February. Usdaw members had voted for industrial action in December, by 91.7% for industrial action on a turnout of 69.5%, over the company's proposal to vary shift patterns. Greggs manufacturing restructure puts 100 roles at risk at their Clydesmill bakery 23 January 2017 Usdaw has been informed by Greggs that they propose to restructure their manufacturing operations by concentrating production into centres of excellence, which could mean a reduction in jobs at the Clydesmill bakery in South Lanarkshire. BHS administration costs higher than expected, Usdaw questions why more wasn’t done to save jobs 18 January 2017 The Work and Pensions Committee today published correspondence with the concurrent administrators of BHS, Duff & Phelps and FRP Advisory, which show that the costs of the administration were £1.3 million higher than estimated in June 2016. The Food Retailer staff entering a period of uncertainty as the business seeks a Company Voluntary Arrangement 12 January 2017 Last year the Food Retailer Group Limited, bought a subsidiary company from the Co-operative Group. This subsidiary, since renamed The Food Retailer Operations Limited has 36 trading stores and a number of non-trading properties. They have now launched a Company Voluntary Arrangement (CVA). Devastating news for Tesco distribution workers in Chesterfield and Welham Green 09 January 2017 Following a review by the company, Tesco has announced that they propose to shut their distribution centres at Welham Green in Hertfordshire and Chesterfield in Derbyshire. Also, following a pilot management restructure that took place in Lichfield and Hinckley, Tesco has decided to roll out the new structures to all their distribution centres.
