20 December 2021
As part of plans to devote more GP resources to the vaccine booster campaign, the Government has announced changes to the Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) Regulations. This applies across the whole of the UK.
As a result, for any sickness absences starting from 10 December 2021 through to 26 January 2022, employees will be allowed to self-certify their absence for up to 28 calendar days. From 27 January 2022, any absences which have lasted longer than seven calendar days will require a fit note and any absence starting from 27 January will revert to the previous self-certification rules.
