Usdaw congratulates Sadiq Khan on his reselection as Labour candidate for the next London Mayoral election

Date: 14 September 2018 Shopworkers’ trade union leader Paddy Lillis has sent his congratulations to London Mayor Sadiq Khan for his reselection, as he gains enough nominations to pass the trigger ballot 50% threshold.
Paddy Lillis – Usdaw General Secretary says: “Usdaw is proud to have nominated Sadiq Khan and so we are delighted that he has been successfully reselected. Sadiq is a proven campaigner having overcome a vicious and personalised campaign against him in 2016.

“His record in office is one of being on the side of London working people. We need Sadiq to continue tackling key issues like housing, transport costs, congestion, jobs, wages and air quality.

“Crucially tackling gun and knife crime, which blights so many London communities is a real priority. Savage Tory cuts in police funding are clearly having a real impact on public safety, so it is crucial that we have a Labour Mayor in London.

“We hope Sadiq will retain the confidence of Londoners and successfully win a second term in office.”
