  • Respect Week 10-14 November 2014

Usdaw’s Freedom From Fear Campaign seeks to prevent violence, threats and abuse against shopworkers. This year we are organising a Respect for Shopworkers Week to highlight these important issues and also,  as we head towards the General Election next May, make sure that politicians recognise the need for there to be a change in the law to give shopworkers better protection from assault.

This year, as well as continuing to collect information on the reporting of incidents, we need your help to find
out how the most serious incidents are dealt with, whether they are reported to the police and if so, how good
    was the response.

Most importantly, shopworkers need a new law protecting them from assault. It is completely unacceptable for them to be physically attacked when they are simply doing their jobs. Four times this year, Labour MPs and Peers have tried to give shopworkers the legal protection they need and each time this Government has blocked these proposals. With the General Election next year, we are calling on Labour Mps and candidates to stand up for our members by supporting us in our call for a new law and in Scotland we are calling on MSPs to consider similar legislation.

We would like you to get involved this year by helping to deliver a high profile campaign in your area. You can help by:
