Usdaw's Freedom From Fear Campaign
seeks to prevent violence, threats and abuse against shopworkers.
It has four main aims, to:
- Negotiate with employers for safety and security improvements
- Campaign for Government to ensure that their policies and
actions help tackle retail crime and anti-social behaviour in
- Raise awareness with the shopping public that violence, threats
and abuse against shopworkers is unacceptable behaviour.
- Give shopworkers the confidence to speak out and not accept
abuse as just a part of the job.
Shocking research reveals that
every minute of the working day another showorker is verbally
abused, threatened with violence or physically
Since the campaign was launched in 2002 we have held annual
Respect for Shopworkers events to promote the campaign. We have
gained the support of the major retail employers, working together
to make shops safer for staff and customers.
