Following on from Mental Health Awareness Week, the event will celebrate the power of collaboration by bringing together retail colleagues to share tools and advice that will empower us all to live happier, healthier lives. Rising prices continue to devalue wages – Usdaw calls for a new deal for workers to help with the ongoing cost of living crisis 24 May 2023 Retail trade union Usdaw is calling for the Government to address the cost of living crisis, after today’s statistics show that wages continue to be devalued by double-digit inflation. The Retail Prices Index (RPI) rate dipped slightly to 11.4% and has now been in double-digits for over a year, the Consumer Prices Index (CPI) also fell to 8.7%. Protect the right to strike! Usdaw joins the TUC emergency protest and urges the Government to drop their anti-union legislation 22 May 2023 Retail trade union Usdaw is calling on the Government to drop their Strikes (Minimum Service Levels) Bill. Today the House of Commons will consider Lords amendments to the Bill, but the union is still calling for it not to go ahead. Usdaw has members joining a trade union demonstration outside the Houses of Parliament this evening. Carer’s Leave Bill: Usdaw welcomes a step in the right direction and calls on the Government to make it paid leave 19 May 2023 Retail trade union Usdaw welcomes Peers today passing the Carer’s Leave Bill, which would give people with caring responsibilities a right to unpaid leave from work. The Bill is now set to becomes law after passing all its parliamentary stages. While welcoming this as a step in the right direction, Usdaw continues to call for the leave to be paid. Worrying 23% increase in shoplifting across England and Wales – Usdaw calls for retail crime to be taken seriously 18 May 2023 Shopworkers’ trade union Usdaw is deeply concerned by police recorded crime statistics for England and Wales showing that in the 12 months to December 2022 there was a 23% increase in shoplifting. This continues the trend of persistent quarterly increases after a dramatic decrease during the pandemic. IDAHOTB 2023: Usdaw calls for an end to LGBT+ harassment and welcomes the ‘together always - united in diversity’ theme 17 May 2023 Retail trade union Usdaw is marking the annual International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia (IDAHOTB) on May 17, with a call for action to tackle LGBT+ harassment in our workplaces and welcomes the 2023 theme of ‘together always - united in diversity’. Usdaw welcomes the High Court hearing a TUC co-ordinated legal challenge to “strike-breaking” agency worker regulations 03 May 2023 Retail trade union Usdaw is one of eleven trade unions who launched a judicial review of the Government’s new regulations, which allows agency workers to fill in for striking workers and break strikes. The High Court hearing of this legal challenge begins today, concludes tomorrow and the result expected in a few weeks’ time.
