Through our New Deal for Workers campaign we have been calling on the Government to introduce a right to a normal hours contract and a minimum 16 hours a week contract for those who want it. We need MPs to take action, now.

We know that the issue of working hours is a huge concern for many workers.

Currently, too many workers in retail, warehousing, road transport and other sectors are contracted for very few hours and see shifts changed at very short notice. Many are routinely working extra hours but those hours aren’t guaranteed.

This situation leads to huge financial uncertainty and insecurity. It cannot continue.

Currently flexibility in the workplace too often means flexibility for the employer at the expense of the worker.

The Government has commissioned review after review, and failed to act on their recommendations to strengthen workers’ rights.

They have failed to introduce the Employment Bill that they pledged in 2019, and numerous times since.

The Government has fundamentally broken its promises to working people.

Now, as chaos reigns and the Government is distracted by bitter infighting, we cannot afford to wait any longer. With the cost of living crisis raging we need MPs to listen and put pressure on the Government to act.
