Retail trade union Usdaw has today opened their 74th annual conference with addresses from the President and General Secretary. For the first time, the Annual Delegate Meeting (ADM) is taking place online because of the pandemic, with over 600 delegates, visitors and officials attending virtually.

Scottish Labour puts free childcare at the heart of its manifesto, which is welcomed by Usdaw

Shopworkers’ trade union Usdaw has welcomed Scottish Labour launching its manifesto for the Holyrood election with a pledge to increase free childcare to 50 hours a week for every youngster. Party leader Anas Sarwar says the policy would help tackle the “national scandal” of child poverty and boost the post-pandemic economic recovery by enabling more parents to return to work.

Retail trade union Usdaw welcomes a new independent Commission on Rebuilding Our High Streets, launched today by Labour’s Shadow Chancellor Anneliese Dodds. It brings together experts from retail, leisure and hospitality businesses, as well as representatives of the trade union, local government, co-operative and social enterprise sectors.

Statutory sick pay is not enough – Usdaw calls on the Government to deliver a New Deal for Workers

Retail trade union Usdaw has expressed disappointment that after today’s increase, Statutory Sick Pay, at just £96.35 per week, is still far too low. SSP does not provide the necessary financial support for millions of low-paid workers who have to take time off work because they are ill, self-isolating or shielding.
