Jane Jones is elected the new President of Usdaw

Jane Jones has been elected President of Usdaw in an all-member ballot of Usdaw members. Jane will take over from Amy Murphy following the Union’s Annual Delegate Meeting (ADM) 25-26 April.

Usdaw victory blocks Tesco 'fire and rehire' tactic - Scottish Court of Session rules in favour of workers affected

Retail trade union Usdaw has today won an interdict in the Court of Session in Edinburgh against Tesco forcing some of the staff at the Livingston distribution centre onto a new contract, which would result in the affected staff losing between £4,000 and £19,000 per year.

Paddy Lillis – Usdaw General Secretary writes…You only have to walk down any high street to see how the retail sector has been impacted by the pandemic, with 20,000 store closures across the UK and 180,000 jobs lost last year. If any other industry faced this level of upheaval, there would quite rightly be a public outcry and Government action, but that is not the case with retail. That is why Usdaw launched our ‘Save our Shops’ campaign.

Scottish Government urged to make progress on Ne'er Day shop closures consultation - Usdaw thanks petitions committee for their support

Retail trade union Usdaw has thanked the Scottish Parliament’s Petitions Committee for helping to secure a commitment from the Scottish Government to make progress on consulting about large stores closing on New Year’s Day. Today the committee closed the petition on the basis that talks across the retail sector will now happen, but invited Usdaw to resubmit the petition if sufficient progress is not made.

Usdaw busts Tory myths about union learning and calls on MPs to lobby the Chancellor for funding

Retail trade union Usdaw is asking the Government to think again on ending the Union Learning Fund in England. The Government announced that all funding will be withdrawn from the end of March 2021, despite budgeting £12 million a year for the Union Learning Fund (ULF) until March 2022. Around 200,000 workers are supported each year into learning or training with union support through the ULF.

Retail trade union Usdaw is seeking urgent meetings with Arcadia administrators and urges them to treat staff with fairness and dignity, after Boohoo today confirmed the takeover of Arcadia brands Burton, Wallis and Dorothy Perkins. Usdaw is also calling on the Government to urgently act to save our high streets.
