'Report it to sort it' - more than half of attacks on shopworkers go unreported says Usdaw survey

Shopworkers’ trade union leader John Hannett is urging retail staff not to suffer in silence as the latest survey by Usdaw shows that 56% of those who experienced violence, threats or abuse at work did not report the incident to their employer. Worryingly 22% of shopworkers who were physically attacked did not report the assault.

Shopworkers’ trade union leader John Hannett has questioned whether police cuts are having an effect on crime as the Office for National Statistics today reports an 11% increase in shoplifting, continuing the trend of a 26% increase since 2012.

Usdaw backs a call for security guards in convenience stores to protect staff from abuse

Shopworkers trade union leader John Hannett has expressed deep concern that the Office of National Statistics (ONS) has today revealed in their Crime Survey for England and Wales that shoplifting continues to rise, increasing by 8% during 2016, contributing to a 21% increase over the last decade.

Shopworkers’ trade union leader John Hannett is greatly concerned by new research, released today, revealing that almost 6,000 convenience store workers experience verbal or physical abuse every day when asking customers for age identification. Shockingly, over 250 racially motivated attacks also take place across the country each day.
