The new coalition will campaign for better financial support for carers and changes to enable them to combine paid work with unpaid care. The union is seeking a new deal for workers on the introduction of new technology and automation in their workplaces and better access to training. ‘Fire and rehire’ should be banned not given a code of practice says Usdaw 25 January 2023 Retail trade union Usdaw has responded to the Government’s proposed code of practice on ‘fire and rehire’ with deep disappointment. ‘Fire and rehire’ refers to when an employer dismisses an employee and offers to re-engage them on a new contract with less-favourable terms. Menopause leave rejected by the Government – Usdaw continues the campaign for statutory workplace rights 24 January 2023 Retail trade union Usdaw is deeply disappointed that the Government has today rejected calls for a large scale pilot of menopause leave and a recommendation from the House of Commons Women and Equalities Committee to make menopause a ‘protected characteristic’ under the Equalities Act.
