Alarming 32% increase in shoplifting across England and Wales – Usdaw calls for a protection of shopworkers law

Shopworkers’ trade union Usdaw is deeply concerned by today’s police recorded crime statistics for England and Wales showing that in the 12 months to September 2023 there was a 32% increase in shoplifting. Inflation uptick shows that the cost of living crisis is nowhere near over says Usdaw

Retail trade union Usdaw continues to call on the Government to address the longstanding and continuing cost of living crisis, after today’s inflation figures show that prices are rising at double the 2% target rate. The Retail Prices Index (RPI) rate dipped slightly to 5.2%, while the Consumer Prices Index (CPI) rate rose to 4%.
