Scottish Government engagement in protection of shopworkers welcomed by Usdaw - the union calls for legislation

Shopworkers’ trade union Usdaw has welcomed comments made by Ash Denham MSP, Minister for Community Safety about engaging with the Protection of Workers (Retail and Age-restricted Goods and Services) (Scotland) Bill. The union calls on the Scottish Government to support the Bill progressing to Stage 2 of the parliamentary process and help it to become law.

Abuse, threats and assaults against shopworkers double during the Coronavirus emergency - Usdaw calls for action

Shopworker’s trade union Usdaw has today released shocking statistics from their survey which shows that on average UK shopworkers have been verbally abused, threatened or assaulted every week during the Coronavirus emergency. The union’s 2019 survey found that average was nearly once a fortnight, so incidents have doubled in the last month.

Boohoo withdrawing fake face masks a small step in the right direction - Usdaw continues to call for their unsafe warehouse to close

Usdaw, the trade union for Boohoo workers, condemned the online retailer for selling face masks as a fashion item and the company has withdrawn them. The union continues to raise staff complaints about inadequate personal protection equipment (PPE) and working practices that don’t ensure necessary social distancing at the Burnley warehouse.

Usdaw calls for employers to follow the Next example to make their warehouses safer

Retail trade union Usdaw has worked with clothes retailer Next to make their online fulfilment centres safe for staff during the Coronavirus emergency. The union now calls on other employers to follow suit.
