Welsh Labour leadership election: Usdaw congratulates Vaughan Gething on his victory

Date: 16 March 2024 Retail trade union Usdaw has congratulated Vaughan Gething MS on being elected the next leader of the Welsh Labour Party, replacing the current First Minister Mark Drakeford who is set to retire next week.
Paddy Lillis - Usdaw General Secretary says: “We welcome that Vaughan Gething has been elected to lead the Welsh Labour Party and look forward to working with him to improve the lives of workers in Wales and deliver for our members. We also pay tribute to Jeremy Miles for running a strong leadership campaign and Mark Drakeford for his service to Wales as First Minister since 2018.

“Usdaw members, their families and working people across Wales need a strong Labour Party in the Senedd and across the country, speaking out for them on their issues of concern. The Welsh Labour Government has provided an important counterbalance to 14 years of Tory austerity and attacks on workers across the UK.”
