Stronger Together policy review: Usdaw welcomes Labour’s new roadmap to a fairer, greener future

Date: 25 September 2022 Retail trade union Usdaw has welcomed today’s launch of a policy roadmap to deliver a fairer, greener future for Britain at Labour’s annual conference in Liverpool. It sets out an ambitious policy agenda that focusses on the key issues facing Britain today.
‘Stronger Together: A Fairer, Greener Future’ shows how the next Labour Government will transform Britain after twelve years of failure under the Conservatives. Key policy pledges include:
  • Sustainable jobs to all parts of the country, creating new green jobs and decarbonising existing ones through a Climate Investment Pledge.
  • A New Deal for Working People within the first 100 days of a Labour Government.
  • A ten-year plan of reform to social care that will act as a roadmap to a world-class National Care Service that makes people as proud as the NHS does.
  • Investment in early years to reduce childcare costs and extending statutory maternity leave.
  • Make ending violence against women and girls a key mission in government.
  • Action to make Brexit work by striking trade deals and building partnerships that deliver jobs and opportunity at home.
Paddy Lillis – Usdaw General Secretary says: “We very much welcome the Stronger Together report, which is a clear and positive foundation for how a future Labour Government will transform our country. In contrast to the huge and misguided gamble the Tories are taking with the economy, Labour has set out policy ideas for a greener and fairer future. Instead of unfunded tax cuts for the rich and big business, Labour is focussd on ending low-paid and insecure employment.

“As well as a new deal for workers, Labour is addressing some of the biggest issues we face by: growing the economy and securing our energy supply through new green jobs; tackling the crisis in our NHS through a National Care Service; improving maternity leave and investing in childcare; ending violence against women and girls, and action to make Brexit deliver jobs.

“The current Conservative Government is determined to load the country with more debt to fund their key priorities of tax cuts for the rich and big businesses making huge profits. We desperately need a Labour Government that will focus on fairness at work, investment in economic growth and a sustainable answer to the Tory cost of living crisis.”
