Usdaw is seeking assurances over jobs and the future of the Dairy Crest business

Date: 26 February 2019 Dairy Crest has agreed to be bought by a Canadian company Saputo, one of the biggest dairy processors in the world. The purchase is still subject to shareholder approval. Usdaw has sought assurances from senior Dairy Crest management over jobs and the future of the business.
Daniel Adams – Usdaw National Officer says: “I have spoken to the Company today and they have confirmed that they understand that our members’ jobs should not be directly impacted by the sale of the business.  Furthermore, we are aware that as part of the takeover process, Saputo has confirmed its intentions to both safeguard existing employment rights and not make any material changes in the balance of skills and functions of employees at Dairy Crest following the acquisition.  The Union is hopeful that this represents a positive investment in the business but will continue to seek the assurances that our members need through the acquisition process.”
