International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women takes place every year on 25 November, the date was designated by the United Nations General Assembly.
Every year has a different theme, 2025's theme focused on online abuse. Abuse on digital platforms is considered a 'serious' and 'rapidly growing' threat to women around the world.
A lack of support for victims, restrictions and laws against online abuse and the use of anonymity from offenders are amongst the reasons for the growing issue.
