The national day of action is organised by the charity Show Racism the Red Card, which this year marks 30 years of educating against racism. The charity is calling on people to wear something red on the day and raise funds to support its anti-racism education work with young people and adults in the UK.

Joanne Thomas – Usdaw general secretary says: “Wear Red Day is an important date in Usdaw’s annual calendar. It encourages thousands of our reps and members to take an active stand against racism in all its forms. We know that anti-racists are in the majority and this is an opportunity for us to show we are united and to create a sense of togetherness.

“Across the country, Usdaw reps will be supporting Wear Red Day in a range of ways to raise both awareness and funds for the educational work delivered by Show Racism the Red Card. It is the thirtieth anniversary of the charity that organises this important and growing campaign day. That is something everyone involved should be very proud of achieving, with now over one million participating.

“Today’s activities complement Usdaw’s ongoing all-year-round ‘No Room for Racism’ campaign, which involves the union’s reps running workplace campaigns, doing what our reps do best - standing up for workers at the sharp end and bringing people together. They engage members, non-members and employers with our anti-racist message: not in my name, not in my workplace.”
