Joanne Thomas – Usdaw general secretary and chair of Labour Unions (TULO) says: “Christina McAnea has played a crucial role in securing the biggest uplift in workers' rights for decades, which culminated in the Employment Rights Bill passing all its parliamentary stages yesterday. In order to achieve that we had to secure a Labour government and Christina made sure that UNISON played a key role in delivering a landslide victory last year. On a personal note, I’d like to thank Christina for the support she has given me since I became Usdaw general secretary in July and TULO chair in September.
“I congratulate Andrea Egan on her election as the new Unison general secretary and I look forward to continuing to work closely with UNISON through TULO, along with all the affiliated trade unions. There are significant challenges ahead, as we continue to fight to improve workers’ rights and ensure the Employment Rights Bill is delivered in full. These historic reforms will help to make work pay and jobs more secure, Labour is the only party that would deliver these changes and that is the message we need to communicate to trade union members and all workers.”
