Usdaw asks members to vote Labour and reminds voters to take their photo ID to the polling station

Retail trade union Usdaw is asking members to use their vote in today’s elections to support Labour candidates, who will deliver on our campaign goal of better policing and provide the essential local services that so many low-paid workers and their families rely on.

Across England, voters will be going to the polls to elect local councillors, directly elected mayors and a Member of Parliament for Runcorn and Helsby. Polls are open from 7am to 10pm and you can find your polling station at: https://iwillvote.org.uk/

Voters will have to prove their identity by showing photo identification at the polling station; details of valid forms of ID can be found at: www.gov.uk/how-to-vote/photoidyoull-need

Paddy Lillis – Usdaw general secretary says: “Usdaw is urging our members to vote today and asking them to support their local Labour candidates, who are committed to delivering change in their communities – like Labour in Government. In just nine months since the general election, we have seen progress on Labour delivering a new deal for workers, protections against attacks on retail workers and measures to tackle shop crime, along with additional uniformed police officers patrolling communities and shopping areas.

“In stark contrast, the two main opponents offer little more than false promises and a record of opposing improved worker rights. The main incumbents at this election are Conservative councillors, who represent a party that broke our economy, destroyed public services and failed to make any improvements in employment rights. Their main challengers are Reform UK, whose leader voted against the Employment Rights Bill, opposing important changes to make work pay and jobs more secure. He tells you what you want to hear, then votes the opposite way.

“Electing Labour today will help deliver the change we need across the country and in our communities. So, we are asking our members to vote Labour today.”
