Today Usdaw announced a further strike date between 6am and 9.59pm on Friday 2 January 2026. Usdaw members voted overwhelmingly to take industrial action in a dispute over the company’s use of ‘fire and hire’ to reduce terms and conditions for staff at their Rochdale site. Four stoppages took place in December on Monday 15th, Wednesday 17th, Friday 19th and from 2pm today (Monday 22nd).
Michelle Byrne – Usdaw area organiser says: “Tetrosyl management are behaving appallingly in this dispute and they are, like the Grinch, trying to steal Christmas from their staff. One worker has been unfairly dismissed, which is devastating for them and their family at this time of year. Rather than reasonably seeking a resolution to the dispute the company is illegally bringing in agency workers, provided by Ideal Recruitment, to try to break the strike, which is a criminal offence. The company is refusing to recognise Usdaw and is forcing us down a legal route to secure an agreement.
“My message to management is clear, you will not break the resolve of our members with your dirty tricks, let’s get around the table and sort this out. It is deeply regrettable that the company has forced us to announce further industrial action in the New Year. The company should take on board the strength of feeling among their staff and step back from slashing terms and conditions through immoral ‘fire and rehire’ tactics. Tetrosyl could bring this ongoing dispute to an end by responding positively and we urge them to engage immediately to avert further stoppages.
“This is a company that was able to afford a £2 million dividend payment last year and one which doesn’t need to behave this way. Yet, as it stands, warehouse staff are set to lose between £4,000 and £7,000 per year, due to the removal of terms such as a shift supplement and paid breaks. Some couples on the picket line have told me that their household is set to lose £12,000 to £14,000. Who can afford that? These workers are being busted down to near minimum wage levels, while the directors continue to enjoy high pay.
“The new contracts in their current form are totally unacceptable, especially given the ongoing cost of living crisis affecting members and the continuing contribution they make to the success of the business.”
