Usdaw calls on the company to make a New Year resolution and treat the staff with respect

Usdaw, the trade union for staff working at car care products manufacturer Tetrosyl and Tetrosyl Express, has called on management to make a New Year resolution and end their dirty tricks. Tomorrow, 2 January, Usdaw members start their fifth day on strike at 6am, having voted overwhelmingly to take industrial action in a dispute over the company’s use of ‘fire and rehire’ to reduce terms and conditions for staff at their Rochdale site.

Michelle Byrne – Usdaw area organiser says: “Tetrosyl management need to start the New Year afresh and end their appalling behaviour in this dispute, which means showing respect to their staff and engaging in talks. Last year, one worker was unfairly dismissed, the company illegally brought in agency workers to try to break the strike, which is a criminal offence, and management refuses to engage with Usdaw, forcing us into a legal process to secure an agreement.

“My message to management remains clear, you will not break the resolve of our members with your dirty tricks, let’s get around the table and sort this out. The company should take on board the strength of feeling among their staff and step back from slashing terms and conditions through immoral ‘fire and rehire’ tactics. Tetrosyl could bring this ongoing dispute to an end by responding positively and we urge them to engage immediately to avert further industrial action. Let’s start again in 2026 and find a resolution to bring this dispute to an end.”
