Tetrosyl managers have been holding one-to-one meetings with staff and have served notice of a new contract coming into effect on 1 January 2026. It clearly states this is a dismissal of their current contract with a reengagement of a new contract. Usdaw regards this as a ‘fire and rehire’ situation. It is envisaged that the one-to-one meetings are set to conclude by 6 November 2025.
Michelle Byrne – Usdaw area organiser says: “We are appalled that Tetrosyl is engaging in immoral ‘fire and rehire’ tactics. The new contract results in warehouse staff pay being reduced by between £4,000 and £7,000 per year, due to the removal of a shift supplement and paid breaks. We are advising our members not to sign the new contract and we urge the company to engage in talks with Usdaw. In the meantime, we are providing our members with the support and assistance they need at this very difficult time.
“Fire and rehire is a Victorian-style practice and the Government has brought forward measures as part of the Employment Rights Bill to prevent employers from using it to downgrade terms and conditions of employment. Usdaw continues to work with the Government to deliver the new deal for workers in full to improve rights and make jobs more secure and better paid with fairer employment standards. It is only right that good employers are not undercut by the rogues who seek to exploit workers.”
Elsie Blundell MP, Member of Parliament for Heywood and Middleton North, says: “I am profoundly disappointed on behalf of my constituents who are employed at Tetrosyl. The behaviour that they are exhibiting toward their hardworking employees has no place in 2025 – especially when it comes to the use of fire and rehire tactics in order to undermine workers’ terms and conditions.
“Alongside other local parliamentarians, I wrote to Tetrosyl some time ago and their response made clear that they are unprepared to change their position – despite what this could mean for countless workers in their employment and a vast number of our constituents. Workers deserve certainty, fairness and for their employers to protect their most basic rights. We stand with the employees of Tetrosyl and thank Usdaw for their continued efforts in supporting them at this deeply challenging time.
“We are prepared to support these workers however we can.”
