The company has said that the new site will be “larger, more energy-efficient and equipped with new technology and improved facilities for our colleagues” and is proposing to close the existing 35-year-old facility.
Mark Todd – Usdaw national officer says: “We have been briefed by Tesco about their plans to build a new distribution facility in Hinckley and close the existing one, which will be subject to consultation talks with Usdaw and Sata. We welcome that the company has indicated that they are working on the basis that jobs will be available for all staff at the new site. Our members will be fully supported by Usdaw throughout this process.”
