Sainsbury’s in talks to sell Argos to JD.com – Usdaw is supporting staff

Retail trade union Usdaw is seeking further information from Sainsbury’s after the supermarket chain confirmed it was in discussions regarding a potential sale of Argos Retail Group to JD.com.

Joanne Thomas – Usdaw general secretary says: “Following media reports that Sainsbury’s could be selling Argos to JD.com, we have been in touch with the company who have confirmed that discussions are taking place. Usdaw represents Argos staff and we will be ensuring that we continue to be briefed on the situation. Our priorities are to safeguard jobs and ensure our members are kept fully up to speed about the future of the business. In the meantime, we are providing the support and representation our members need through this period of uncertainty.”
