Usdaw welcomes McVitie’s owner Pladis’ investment into their Stockport and Harlesden factories

Usdaw represents workers at the Pladis sites in Stockport, Greater Manchester and Harlesden, north London. The union has welcomed the business announcing a £21 million investment to introduce a new chocolate moulding line into its Stockport Jaffa Cake factory and a share of a £12 million investment in infrastructure for the Harlesden site.

This is part of a £68 million injection into British operations, which includes new investment for sites in Liverpool Aintree, Carlisle, Halifax and Leicester. The company has scheduled its plans to be completed by the end of 2026.

It clearly demonstrates the company’s commitment to UK operations and shows there is a strong future for the business – and that is great for job security. We will continue to work with the company to ensure that staff are fully briefed and consulted about the improvements and modernisation of processes.”
