Joanne Thomas – Usdaw general secretary says: “Alongside the TUC, we condemn the dangerous escalation of military actions, precipitated by the attacks launched by the US and Israel, that flout international law and undermine diplomacy and prospects for peace. We are appalled at the killing of civilians and deeply concerned at the risk of further escalation. We condemn the Iranian regime’s oppression and killing of its own people and we stand with trade unions across the region who are calling for an immediate halt to hostilities and the urgent resumption of talks grounded in international law. Usdaw also calls on the UK Government to step up efforts to support and evacuate its citizens who are stranded in the region, as a matter of urgency.”
