Usdaw has opposed plans from Belfast City Council over the past few years to open shops for longer on Sundays.
The Council are currently consulting the public on how to improve the public’s experience of Sundays in Belfast. Once again, longer shop opening hours are part of the plans. The outcome of this consultation is likely to affect people right across Northern Ireland.
Usdaw has so far managed to stop Belfast City Council from removing the restrictions on Sunday trading. The proposals would have seen large stores able to open longer on Sundays and, we believe, would have led to increasing deregulation of trading hours across the whole of Northern Ireland.
