Shop workers’ trade union leader Paddy Lillis yesterday launched a petition to protect retail staff from violence, threats and abuse. It is now the fastest growing petition on the parliamentary website, having passed 10,000 signatures in one day. This means the Government now has to respond to the petition.

In response to continued growing assaults, threats and abuse against shopworkers and the doubling of such incidents during the coronavirus emergency, Usdaw General Secretary Paddy Lillis has today (Wednesday) launched a House of Commons petition calling on the Government to legislate to protect shopworkers.

The union urges the company to engage with Usdaw and to treat the staff with dignity and respect at this very difficult time.

The union is deeply concerned that the necessary consultation processes are not taking place and are preparing a legal challenge on behalf of members affected.
