Shopworkers’ trade union leader Paddy Lillis has called for the Government to go much further than the ‘Good Work Plan’ announced today. Usdaw has been campaigning for significant improvements in the labour market and today’s announcement, whilst bringing some positive developments, will not tackle in-work poverty or other abuses in the jobs market.

Offensive Weapons Bill: MPs urged by Usdaw, retailers, staff and the public to vote tomorrow for a protection for shopworkers amendment

The Offensive Weapons Bill sets out criminal penalties for shopworkers and delivery drivers who complete sales of corrosive substances and knives to under-18s. The amendment will create an offence if the person attempting to illegally buy these products abuses, threatens or assaults the retail worker who is enforcing the law.
