Offensive Weapons Bill: Peers urged by Usdaw to support a protection for shopworkers amendment

The Offensive Weapons Bill sets out criminal penalties for shopworkers and delivery drivers who allow sales of corrosive substances and knives to under-18s. The amendment backed by Usdaw will create an offence if the person attempting to buy these products abuses, threatens or assaults the retail worker who is enforcing the law.

'Time for better pay' petition passes 10,000 signatures - Usdaw campaign continues

Usdaw’s ‘Time for better pay’ petition is now the fastest growing on the .gov website, having today passed 10,000 signatures in less than two weeks. This means the Government now has to respond to the petition, but the union is continuing to push for 100,000 signatures that should trigger a parliamentary debate.

Usdaw disappointed that the Government doesn't accept shopworkers' crucial role in enforcing the law

Shopworkers’ trade union leader Paddy Lillis is disappointed that a Home Office Minister has today not accepted the crucial role shopworkers have in enforcing the law on age-restricted sales. However the union welcomes the offer of a meeting to explain why amendments to the Offensive Weapons Bill, that will help protect shopworkers, should be accepted by the Government.
