Usdaw supports 'Wear Red Day' to show racism the red card

Date: 21 October 2016 Shopworkers’ trade union Usdaw has linked in for the second year running with the UK’s leading anti-racism educational charity Show Racism the Red Card to promote their Wear Red Day in workplaces across the UK.

John Hannett – Usdaw General Secretary says: “Today’s Wear Red Day is a timely reminder that everyone has the right to be treated with dignity and respect at work, particularly in this challenging period after the referendum. Regardless of race, religious belief or national origin, everyone must be allowed to go about their lives free from fear of abuse.

“Across the country Usdaw reps are organising Wear Red Day events in workplaces to raise awareness and funds for educational work delivered by Show Racism the Red Card. Usdaw’s own staff are also participating today.

“Show Racism the Red Card is an organisation that uses the high-profile status of football and football players to help tackle racism in society using education. They deliver high-quality training and education to young people and adults in their schools, their workplaces and at events held in football stadiums to more than 50,000 individuals per year.

“Usdaw works closely with Show Racism the Red Card, who have supported a number of anti-racism campaigns in Usdaw workplaces.”
