Usdaw delegates applaud justice for the Hillsborough 96

Date: 26 April 2016 Delegates at the annual conference of shopworkers trade union Usdaw greeted the verdict of the Hillsborourgh inquest with a standing ovation as the union’s General Secretary broke the news to the hall.

Speaking to Usdaw’s Annual Delegate Meeting in Blackpool’s Winter Gardens, John Hannett – Usdaw General Secretary said: “We can only imagine the trauma and difficulty those family members faced as they struggled for justice over many years; particularly when the establishment did everything to avoid the truth coming out and justice being done.

“Let’s not forget The Sun headlines that did everything to demean and demonise people who were effectively killed as a result of negligence. What a disgraceful piece of journalism!”

The General Secretary then invited delegates to join with the families in applauding the inquest jury.
