Usdaw/Makro Joint Statement - Announcement on consultation

Representatives from Makro and Usdaw have met to discuss proposals to reduce costs in stores while continuing to meet the changing needs of Makro’s customers.

The proposals cover a possible restructure in stores at the level of department managers and supervisors, together with contract variation, and will mean about 500 employees are placed at risk.

Representatives from Makro and Usdaw have also discussed a proposal to change Makro’s final salary pension scheme to a Career Average Re-valued Earnings scheme.

In the interests of both staff and the long-term success of the business, Makro and Usdaw have committed to ensure all staff affected by these proposals have the opportunity to share their point of view and all viable options will be considered.

Formal consultation on each proposal will begin on Thursday, February 11th.

Representatives have agreed to meet regularly throughout the 90-day consultation period.
