John Hannett re-elected as General Secretary

John Hannett has been re-elected as General Secretary of the shopworkers’ union, Usdaw, the fourth largest union in the UK. He was first elected to the post of General Secretary in 2003.

John commented:

“I am delighted to be re-elected by an increased margin. The fact that so many Usdaw members supported me is recognition of the fantastic work that is taking place right across the union. Since being elected in 2003 the union has embarked on a major modernisation programme and many successful campaigns resulting in membership growing considerably and many new rights won for Usdaw members.

“I will continue to campaign relentlessly on behalf of Usdaw members and represent their views to government and employers. With the continuing support from Usdaw’s members we can provide an ever stronger voice to fight for the issues that matter most to our members.”
