Shop Direct ballot result

04 September 2008

Usdaw members have voted to accept Shop Direct’s improved pay offer, avoiding strike action.

Over 5,000 union members voted in favour of a 9.24% two year deal. The deal will see the members receiving a 4% increase from 1 Oct 2008, 1% from May 2009 and a further 4% from July 2009.

2,846 workers voted in favour of the deal, which was recommended by Usdaw, 2,258 voted against it, with 3 papers spoiled. 4,364 of those voting were Usdaw members, with 743 represented by the GMB.

Val Pugh, Usdaw National Officer, commented:

“I am pleased that our members have voted to accept this revised offer by Shop Direct. I am now hopeful that both the company and the union can return to their former good industrial relations.”

John Hannett, Usdaw General Secretary, added:

“Our Shop Direct members have been loyal for many years, so I’m glad that this issue has been resolved without our members losing any money. I also appreciate the hard work that our union reps have put in during this difficult time.”
