Usdaw delighted at Brown’s vision for future23 September 2008Shopworkers’ union, Usdaw, is delighted at Gordon Brown’s vision for the future, following his speech today at the Labour Party Conference. The Prime Minister announced his plans to protect Britain’s hardworking majority, focussing on fairness for all and offering support to those most affected by the current economic situation. John Hannett, Usdaw General Secretary, commented: “We are delighted that Gordon Brown has put the needs of working people first. He has clearly been listening to Usdaw’s campaigning for help for working people. “Gordon is leading the Labour Party in the right direction and we believe he is the man with the skills and vision to lead our country through these challenging times and to victory at the next election. “We particularly believe that this commitment to introduce legislation to tackle child poverty and extending childcare provision will help hard-pressed families and mothers who want or need to work. “This is the kind of family friendly thinking that the Labour Party needs to see it through to a fourth term. Gordon Brown is listening to the needs of families and helping people to get back into work. “We’re delighted that Gordon has spoken out on behalf of Usdaw members.”
