Usdaw hails vote-winning policies won at Warwick
28 July 2008
John Hannett, General Secretary of shopworkers’ union Usdaw, welcomed the package of policies for working people negotiated by trade unions at Warwick.
Usdaw won support for policy commitments to help working people and families. The Labour Party will deliver:
- Free IT skills training up to GCSE level.
- Extending Parental Leave for parents of children up to 16 so they can take their children to medical appointments, attend sports days and give support during exams.
- Increase the minimum wage for young workers, paying the full rate at 21 and looking at changes to support younger workers.
- More affordable childcare for parents who have to work outside normal office hours and during school holidays.
- Protection for staff working in high temperatures.
John Hannett welcomed the policies achieved:
“These are all important issues that our members have asked us to take up with the Government. I am delighted that the Government has agreed with our arguments and will be delivering these policies that will make such a difference to our members and to all hard-working people.”
