Usdaw praises Gordon Brown speech24 September 2007Usdaw's General Secretary, John Hannett, has praised the leader's speech at today's Labour Party Conference. Speaking from Bournemouth John Hannett said, "This was a speech that spelt out what Labour stands for in all aspects of policy. He has shown that Labour understands the issues and has the solutions. "Usdaw members will be particularly pleased to hear his commitments to supporting families. Extended maternity leave, policies to improve work/life balance and a commitment to ending child poverty are all of real benefit." The Prime Minister also recognised the issues faced by working carers, something that Usdaw is campaigning on at this conference. John said, "We very much welcome the establishment of a standing commission to work through policies to help carers. "His commitment to full employment and the national Minimum Wage show that our members can only prosper under a Labour Government. "Whenever the General Election is called, I believe the public will recognise the direction of a Gordon Brown led Government is best placed to deliver on all the key aspects whether it is child poverty, public housing and pensions. His Government is ready to take the next step in ensuring that Britain will live up to the values that he as a conviction politician believes in." Notes to Editors:
