Home Pensions Starting a Pension
Why start a pension?Everyone needs money to live on when they retire. How much money you have will make the difference between enjoying retirement in security and simply getting by. Where will that money come from? Well, unless you become very rich between now and the time you retire it will probably have to come from putting money aside during your working life:
Most people need a combination of the State pension and company pension to maintain their standard of living in retirement. If your employer offers a pension scheme which they will pay into, then you should seriously consider joining it. Check our Pension Finder to see if your employer is listed. What other members told us about why they joined their company scheme; "I don't want to be poor" "I don't want to depend upon the State Pension as it is now" "I want a comfortable retirement" "I want to enjoy myself and go on holiday every year" "I wanted to do all the things I'd been looking forward to doing while I was working" "I don't want to struggle financially" "I want to be independent and not rely on my children" "My employers pay a contribution worth a tenth of my pay, I'd be daft to pass that up" "My employers have one of the few final salary schemes still open to new employees so I thought if I didn't join when I had the chance I might not be able to later" "I wouldn't leave my family in the lurch if the worst came to the worst" "It's nice to know my family will be looked after should anything ever happen to me" |
