Have a Safe Journey
to Work
The Union has been finding out more about the problems many of our
members have when they are travelling to and from work.
Many of our members, particularly women, can feel unsafe on
their journey to work. Dark car parks, missing the last bus home at
the end of a shift and isolated staff entrances can all be a source
of worry.
Over the last year the Union has asked over two and half
thousand Reps and members to tell us about their journeys to work.
We did this by using a short survey and by holding local get
together of members. This gave us a clear picture of the problems
members are having travelling to and from work.
Now we know more about the problems,
we’d like to help develop solutions so that more of our members
feel safer on their journey to work.
We are providing you with a few simple, easy to use campaign
materials below. You can use these in the following way:
- Give the leaflet called
What’s happening on your journey to work? to
members and non members so they know Usdaw is taking this issue up.
You can order extra copies of this leaflet at no cost from Usdaw
Central Office.
- Put the
poster up on your Union noticeboard.
- Ask members and non members to fill out the very short survey so you know what problems they are having
with their journey to work.
- Look at the
Reps leaflet for lots of ideas about how to
help members who are worried.
