Tell us your story
Government cuts and changes to
taxes, pensions and benefits will have a huge and sometimes
devastating impact on the lives of our members and their
families.
Usdaw is campaigning
alongside the TUC and other organisations to make sure people know
what is going on, to raise awareness that there is an alternative
and to try and stop the very worst aspects of the cuts program.
An important way to do this
is to by generating real stories and features in newspapers,
magazines, TV and radio about the impact of cuts on our members and
their families. The stories that most interest readers and
listeners are ones that explain the impact of cuts through the
lives of everyday people.
Recent examples of
people-led stories in newspapers include the
Taylor family explaining how they've been affected by job
losses in the Guardian and single mum
Katie Potter explaining how she'll be affected by the abolition
of the health in maternity grant in the Daily Mirror.
Usdaw and the TUC are
collecting the stories of people whose life has or will be affected
by the cuts, maybe through losing their job, a sharp cut in family
income or having a benefit or public service that is vital to them
and their family reduced or abolished altogether.
At the moment we are
particularly looking for members and families who will be hit hard
by the tax and benefits changes the government is introducing from
April this year. Are you a family with or without children in
receipt of tax credits? Are you a single parent who receives
childcare tax credit? Are you an expectant Mum due after
mid-April?
If you've got a story to
tell and you're happy to share it with others or you fit the
description above and you're willing to help our campaigns then
please let us know by using the form below.
We won't be able to use
everyone's story but if we can we will contact you and talk through
what being a case study would involve and what forms of media you'd
be comfortable doing.
