FirstCall is first class service

25 February 2009

There has been a marked increase in claims since FirstCall Usdaw – the free accident claim line – was introduced.

32% more people are making new claims, thanks to the helpline, which was introduced by Usdaw’s Legal Plus service in 2008 with the strap line ‘No forms No fuss No delay’.

John Hannett, Usdaw’s General Secretary, said:

"Not only has FirstCall Usdaw been popular with our members, but it is showing improvements in the time it takes to process new personal injury claims.

"One of our members had an accident on the 5th May 2008, shortly after the launch of FirstCall Usdaw. He was seen by his union solicitor within three days. His claim has now been finalised and compensation paid within four months and two days of the accident.

"Having FirstCall Usdaw available to our members 365 days a year, 24 hours a day, reduces the time it takes for our members to speak to a union solicitor, and therefore speeds up the claims process.

"FirstCall Usdaw is a modern service for a modern union."
