New legal service10 April 2003New legal service now on offer to members and their families The Usdaw Legal Plus service is second to none but it doesn't matter how good our service is or how wide a range of subjects it covers: 1) If members don't know about it. 2) If members don't know how to apply for it. 3) If members find it difficult or slow to make an application. Branch officials are the key to making sure that in every workplace there are effective systems in place. A good system: 1) Tells all members and potential members of Usdaw Legal Plus. 2) Informs all members of how they can apply for legal assistance. 3) Ensures that members have easy access to Legal Plus application forms . 4) Gives help in completing them. 5) Ensures that forms get to the Legal Department quickly and safely. 6) Ensures that there is a point of contact with an Usdaw rep at workplace level if the member needs support through the progress of the claim. 7) Ensures that there is technical back-up in an accident case, eg:Accident investigation (Usdaw HS3). Risk assessments. Hazards Report (Usdaw HS2 form).Health and Safety Committee minutes. Accident book. 8) Knowledge of background. 9) Knowledge of good practice. 10) Knowledge of workplace/conditions.
