FirstCall Usdaw - FAQ's

What is FirstCall Usdaw?

A free, 24/7 claim line for new accident, injury and disease claims.

How do you make a claim?

Call 0800 055 6333 and give them your:

  • Name.
  • Address.
  • Contact details.
  • Date of birth.
  • Date of accident.

Do you need your Usdaw membership number?

No - if you have it you may speed up the call but we can process your claim without it.

Can my family members use FirstCall Usdaw?

Yes - family members in your household are covered by Usdaw Legal Plus for road traffic claims - they should also start the claim through FirstCall Usdaw.

How long will the call take?

The call is free and it should take less than five minutes to process your claim.

When will I hear from a Solicitor?

When you make the call your membership details will be checked and an Usdaw Solicitor will be instructed immediately by e-mail. The Solicitor should contact you on the next working day. All victim of violence cases will be handled by the Usdaw Legal Department.

What do I do if I do not hear from the Solicitor?

When you make the call to FirstCall Usdaw you will be given the name and telephone number of the Solicitor Usdaw has appointed. Call the Solicitor directly if you do not hear from them. Call the Legal Department on 0161 249 2473 during office hours if you have any problems or if you have mislaid the Solicitor's number.

My Call was transferred to the Legal Department - why was that?

To qualify for Usdaw Legal assistance a member must have been a fully paid up member from the time of the accident to the time of the call to FirstCall Usdaw.

If the computer cannot immediately trace you as an eligible Usdaw member your call will be passed to the Legal Department who will sort out any problems with you.

Can I use FirstCall Usdaw to contact the Solicitor?

No - FirstCall Usdaw is the number to ring to start a new claim. When you make the call you will be given the name and number of the Solicitor Usdaw has appointed - that is the number to use if you have a query about an ongoing case or want to speak to your Solicitor.

Can I use FirstCall Usdaw for other kinds of legal assistance?

No - FirstCall Usdaw is only for making a new accident, injury or disease claim.

For help with employment matters you should contact your rep or your Area Organiser. For prosecutions, wills, conveyancing or the non work related advice service you should apply for help using the appropriate BL form or contact the Usdaw Legal Department on 0161 249 2473/0161 249 2477.

We have some completed yellow BL1 forms - what should we do with them?

If a member has already completed a yellow BL1 or a green BL5 form to make an accident claim, send it to the Legal Department in the normal way and we will process it.
