Lifelong Learning takes off in the Midlands!26 September 2004Usdaw’s Midlands Division has reason to celebrate as Lifelong Learning projects are springing up all over the place. Since September 2003 over 500 Usdaw members in the Midlands Division have returned to learning as a result of Usdaw Lifelong Learning projects. Most popular have been computer courses, literacy and numeracy as well as language courses such as Spanish. More than 30 Usdaw workplaces, in the Midlands, are engaged in Lifelong Learning initiatives and there are around 80 active Union Learning Reps. Sites with established projects vary in size and scope from very large sites such as Boots Logistics in Nottingham, medium sized sites such as ACC Alfreton, ACC Halesowen and TDG/Sainsbury's in Rugby, right through to smaller manufacturing sites like Standard Soap in Ashby de la Zouch. Usdaw’s Lifelong Learning Project Worker in the Midlands, Jo-Christa Taylor says, “I am so pleased with the response we are receiving in the Midlands from Usdaw Reps and from Employers. If we continue at this rate we will have attracted over 1000 Usdaw members in the Midlands back into learning by the end of 2004.” Anyone interested in developing a Lifelong Learning initiative in the Midlands should contact Jo-Christa Taylor either by email or at Usdaw’s Kegworth Office on 01509 686900. Or alternatively you can contact Ed Leach at the Usdaw Kegworth Office or by email. Watch this space for updates!
