Members clean up on computer course at factory

14 March 2002

A new computer course set up by Usdaw has attracted more than a quarter of the staff at a factory in Glasgow.

Union rep Colin Coles has organised the course for members at the Jeyes factory.

The overwhelming response from 53 union members at the site has meant the course, run in partnership with Stow West College, has to be staggered over two nights.

Deputy senior steward Colin is delighted with the response. "The course lasts 18 weeks with members attending on a Monday or Friday evening," he said. "The reaction from staff was unbelievable. We have people from across the age groups all really keen on keeping up with computer technology.

"The feedback has been very positive, everyone's enjoying themselves and we're all up for it.

"The college has been very helpful. The tutors are very supportive and make sure everyone is progressing at their own pace.

"The company is also happy to see staff getting some training - courtesy of Usdaw. It's been a huge success."
