Reality check for home shopping learning reps and members14 May 2002Home shopping members won praise from their local MP when they were awarded their Lifelong Learning certificates at Reality in Bolton last month. Brian Iddon, MP for Bolton South East, was the guest of honour at the Beehive Mill site, where a new Learning Centre is now in place. "The Learning Centre is excellent," said Learning Rep Muriel Boyle, "and many members have used the facilities. "Staff have already shown a lot of interest, but having a permanent centre on site means that even more people can take advantage of courses on offer." Members have also completed a Basic Skills course in IT. "I've enjoyed the course and can't wait to further my skills with another," said Gavin Boyle. "The course was first class," said Indubin Patel. "It helped to take some of the fear out of using computers, I was amazed with the progress I made." "Everyone was very enthusiastic about the IT courses," said Learning Rep Ron Parkes, "And most of them will be signing up for further courses in the future." "Learning has really taken off on site," said Learning Rep Jennifer Torkington. "We've had a lot of help from local colleges in Preston and Trafford, and people are genuinely interested and enthusiastic about improving their knowledge and skills."
